Just a Taste – $50 per person
(approximately 2 hours; minimum age 6)

If you have time limitations or if you’re just not sure about horseback riding, Just a Taste offers a trail ride around the grounds at Base Camp. Your horse guides you through forests and across creeks, including a visit to the tunnel built by the Great Northern Railroad connecting Base Camp and Glacier National Park. Our arena is available to practice your horseback riding skills.

Half Day Horseback Ride – $125 per person
(approximately 4 hours; minimum age 6)

For more time in the saddle and a chance to ride into the Wilderness, Half Day trail rides take you further from Base Camp. The horseback ride may include riding to the top of Devil’s Hump or perhaps meandering along the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, both within the Great Bear Wilderness.

Full Day Horseback Ride – $175 per person
(approximately 8 hours; minimum age 6)

Make a full day of your horseback adventure! Full Day trail rides take you deeper into the Great Bear Wilderness or along the Rocky Mountain Front on the East side of the Rocky Mountains, where the mountains meet the prairie. Bring your own lunch to enjoy along the way. With advance notice, a bit of fishing for Montana’s illusive wild trout can be included with your trip.

What a great trip! Capri’s experience and confidence showed and shined from the phone call to make our reservation to the end. I wish we had booked a full day. I didn’t want it to stop!!! Shawn and Capri made Montana proud. Friendly fun day!!!!

Wilderness Ride & Raft Trips – $275 per person
(minimum age 10; minimum group size 5/maximum group size 10)

Our Full Day Ride and Raft is without a doubt the perfect combination of horseback riding and rafting, within the Great Bear Wilderness and along the southern border of Glacier National Park. Our River Guides say it is by far the best Ride and Raft they’ve ever guided. This is the only one-day Ride and Raft offered in Glacier Country within Wilderness. Once you head out on your horse you won’t see civilization again until you step off your raft. This is absolutely a one-of-a-kind adventure!

Snowy Springs Outfitters has partnered with Wilderness River Outfitters, a family owned business established in 1972, to offer this unique wilderness adventure with great guides and top of the line equipment. We have worked with WRO for 25 years; WRO holds a permit issued by the USDA Forest Service.

Horseback Ride in the Morning

We head to the river on horseback with mules packing the raft gear, river clothes and lunch, travelling 2 to 4 hours by horseback to reach the put in. The trails meander through wooded forest following the river deeper into the Wilderness. There are several different launch sites on the upper section of the Middle Fork of the Flathead River that we use based on our guests’ experience and the river level.

Raft the River in the Afternoon

You’ll be fitted with farmer john style wetsuits, helmets and life jackets before leaving Base Camp. Once to the river, while you swap your cowboy duds for rafting attire, your guide will lay out a yummy lunch. River Guides will go through a training session and safety talk, then it’s off you go. These are hands on paddle trips where everyone provides the power to guide the raft down the river. A lot of times we never see another group of people.

Since this trip is away from the hustle and bustle of the lower river traffic, the odds are good of seeing wildlife. Elk, deer, moose and bear all call the wilderness home. We will meet you at the raft take out with dry towels. June is Big Water with rapids of Class lll and lV. By July and August, the river is lower and considered a Technical Boulder Garden. As the river lowers with the run off we use smaller rafts and inflatable kayaks.

Montana Fly Fishing – $275 per person
(minimum age 6)

Fish Montana’s famous blue ribbon waters on a Full Day of Fishing. We offer a Full Day trail ride with options of fishing the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, an alpine lake or the Two Medicine River along the Rocky Mountain Front. From Base Camp, you will ride horseback into the Bob Marshall Wilderness to the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. Or ride high into the mountains of Montana to a pristine alpine lake where the fish are jumping! Or we will trailer east of Marias Pass to the Front Range and the Two Medicine River. The emphasis of these trips is fishing for our native Westslope Cutthroat trout and rainbow trout, but the horseback ride to get to the fish is just as spectacular as the fishing! A Montana fishing license is required and may be purchased at https://app.mt.gov/als/index/index.html.
